Xiaomi Releases MIUI 13 with Latest Privacy and Security

MIUI 13 launch is set for Tuesday, December 28 — alongside the debut of the Xiaomi 12 series. The new MIUI version is claimed to deliver a list of performance improvements over MIUI 12.5. Xiaomi also claims that MIUI 13 will deliver improved “system fluency” and stability. The next-generation MIUI will come pre-installed on the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Privacy is a crucial concern for smartphone users, so Xiaomi implemented a three-step verification process, although it sounds like it could work in certain regions. The base layer is facial recognition, followed by watermark reading of the user’s ID, and then there’s a so-called “electronic fraud protection”.

Xiaomi Pro Specifications:

Xiaomi 12 Pro runs on MIUI 13 and features a 6.73-inch WQHD+ (1,440x3,200 pixels) E5 AMOLED display with 1,500 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The display also has a 480Hz touch sampling rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It also includes a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) backplane technology that Apple uses on its premium iPhone models. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

Xiaomi has provided up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, Infrared (IR), and a USB Type-C port.

MIUI 13 Update:

Stable version of MIUI 13 will be available in China for Xiaomi 11 Pro, Xiaomi 11, and Xiaomi 11 Ultra by the end of January 2022. The new version will come pre-installed on Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X.

MIUI 13 is designed as Xiaomi's most advanced custom skin for smartphones and tablets. The proprietary software comes with support for rich widgets that users can place on their home screen and customise in different sizes — similar to the widget support on iOS 15. Sony PlayStation 5 was sold out within minutes of pre-orders going available in India at the May 17 replenishment. The PS5 was released in the country for the first time since February 2021.

The screen brightness goes up to 450 nits. The display is protected by tempered glass with an anti-fingerprint coating. Just like the Mi Band 5, the Mi Band 6 also offers 24/7 heart-rate monitoring but the wearable now offers 30 exercise modes, with automatic detection for six modes.

The Mi Band 6 offers sleep tracking with REM and even checks the sleep-breathing quality. The fitness tracker is swim-proof with 5 ATM water resistance on offer. With a 125mAh LiPo battery, the brand claims that the Mi Band 6 is able to deliver a battery life of up to 14 days on a single charge. One of the crucial new additions is the SPO2 sensor. This sensor allows the fitness band to tracker the user’s blood oxygen levels during intense exercise. 

In terms of connectivity, the Mi Band 6 supports Mi Wear, Mi Fit, and Strava apps. The band comes with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 and above or iOS 10.
